Your chance to shine

Carol service poem auditions

Every year, the team at LifeChurch Manchester produce a creative multi-media performance for our evening carol service.

This year, we’re doing a short video featuring a performance poem and we’re looking for as many performers as possible to perform part of our latest poem about the shepherds in the nativity story.

How to get involved

Using your phone, record yourself performing the sample of the poem below and send it to gilesg@lifechurch.uk.net or via whatsapp to 07786320858. Make sure to include your name and contact details.

1.    The shepherds are the one that have caught my attention,

2.    As they often go by with barely a mention,

3.    Now for once, put aside the picture in your head,

4.    Of the cute little shepherds by the saviour’s bed.

5.    Because I hope you understand what I mean,

6.    When I say working outdoors is anything but clean

7.    Now it’s true they wore dirt like it’s a virtue

8.    And if it’s not too taboo they were smelling of…hopelessness

9.    ‘Cos I know what it’s like when you’re not living the dream,

10. And how work like this knocks your self-esteem.

11. See what society needs most, it values the least,

12. The poor get the crumbs while the rich get the feast.

13. And with dirt under their nails and thick calloused hands,

14. These men spent their days forever working the lands

15. But here’s one detail, in which I delighted,

16. The Magi were welcomed, but the shepherds were invited.

What happens next

If successful, you will be contacted to take part in a read through of the poem (done over zoom). And we will arrange a mutually convenient time to film your section somewhere in the Manchester area.

How can I apply?

We welcome performers from all faith traditions, or no faith at all! So long as you’re happy being part of a church production, all you have to do is be able to memorise lines and move in a straight line!

When do I need to apply?

The deadline to send in your audition pieces is Sunday 22nd September.

We look forward to hearing from you!
